It’s been a long time now since I made the switch to organic skincare and I’ve never looked back – the ingredients used in natural products are just so good for my skin! But although I’ve been using these items for awhile, I always bought them from our local store without a second thought until I realised just how easy it is to make your own. See below for some of my favourite natural DIY alternatives to storebought beauty products.
1. Homemade makeup remover pads via The Merrythought
So I’ve never been a big makeup girl, to the point that I’ve never in my life bought makeup remover pads! But seeing how easy it was to make my own had me whipping up a batch in no time and it’s saved me from scrubbing too hard at my face on those rare occasions when I wear makeup.
2. Bath soak via The Everygirl
I’m such a sucker for a nice long bath, especially during the colder months. And while warm water alone is already so calming, this lavender and oatmeal bath soak has the additional benefits of soothing the skin, assisting with aches and pains, and generally just smelling wonderful.
3. Moisturising shave cream via Live Simply
Don’t let your razor leave you with irritated skin – use this soothing and moisturising homemade shave cream instead. It has baking soda as one of the ingredients which also helps give a closer shave!
4. Lip scrub via The Wonder Forest
I’m a recent lip scrub convert and let me tell you; my lips have never been so soft. I love how super easy to make at home and if you add a drop or two of essential oil as you combine the ingredients, you’ll be greeted with a lovely scent each time you open the jar!
5. Face mask via Hello Glow
I’ve only used face masks a few times in my life, but each time I have, I’ve made a vow to use them more often because they make my skin feel so heavenly. And now that I know I can make one at home like this greek yoghurt face mask, there’s even more reason to indulge in a little ‘face’ time (ha geddit!).
6. Moisturising shower gel via Living Simply
I’m always after a good shower gel, and while I’ve got a few favourite store-bought natural varieties, I love the idea of making my own at home instead. This moisturising shower gel via Living Simply contains all of the good stuff to get your skin feeling soft and clean.
7. Lip gloss via Hello Glow
I have wasted SO much money on lip gloss over the course of my life. You know how it goes, you buy one, it’s horrid. So you ditch it for the next one which you love, but then lose in the space of a week. Then there’s the diferent colours and flavours to try and so it goes on until you realise you’ve bought way too many too count. Well no longer – one homemade batch of this beautiful marsala lip gloss will made me 6 pots and I’ll be set for the next year at least. And just look at that colour!
8. Facial toner via The Merrythought
Toner helps to keep your skin balanced, but often store-bought varieties can contain some not-so-nice ingredients. Enter homemade natural facial toner – this recipe will have your skin feeling and looking fresh in no time.
9. Dry Shampoo via Jules
For all the days when your hair is borderline in need of a wash but you don’t have time, dry shampoo is a miracle worker. And did you know how easy it is to make yourself? Try out this natural recipe – there’s a version for all the fair headed guys and gals, and one for the folks with darker locks.
