  • large jar(s)
  • an old lace table cloth (or lace yardage from the fabric store)
  • measuring tape
  • scissors
  • LED battery operated light(s)
  • sewing machine, thread, etc.

How to make your own ‘Ambilight’ television.

Have you seen those advertisements for Phillips’ Ambilight plasma televisions? Although it’s probably just a gimmick, I was intrigued by the idea. Lit from behind my LCD’s screen wouldn’t be compromised by glare, and it would add needed light/drama to the room. I found something at my local big box store called Auralites, which are manufactured for under-shelf accent lighting applications. They, however, were just the thing I was looking for.

Shadow Play With Adam Frank

The artist and inventor who gave us LUMEN™ light projectors has created yet another glorious ambient lighting wonder. It is REVEAL™, and basically it is a projector, which can be mounted to a ceiling or wall, that casts the impression of a window with light streaming through it.
