I’ve always wondered what the secret was to those perfectly messy frosted cakes. Now I know!
I’ve tried to replicate the messy frosted look once or twice for birthdays, but I could never get it right. Next time, I’ll try cooling the cake in the freezer for a few hours before I start icing, like this tutorial from Oh Happy Day suggests. Maybe that will do the trick.
