Our National Painting Week Project: A Kids’ Art Crawl Extravaganza


This year for Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week, we tackled a community-based art project that exceeded all our expectations. We combined our favorite paint colors, our favorite community, and our favorite group of kids to create a Kids’ Art Crawl! We wanted to get kids thinking about the role of art in their community, and make them feel special by putting their artwork up in a real gallery setting. Can you believe it’s back-to-school season already?? I swear the summer was just getting started! (I haven’t even been to the pool yet… how sad is that?) To kick off all these school shenanigans, here’s a very clever treat to bake, make, and give!    
Would you be surprised to know that this sweet treat idea comes from Angie Dudley of Bakerella fame? Probably not, right? That lady is all kinds of creative, I tell ya.

Christy from Thrifty and Thriving created this easy-to-follow tutorial for making your own candy pencil.  It’s perfect for kids or teachers alike and is sure to put a smile on a few faces.  (Nothing like starting things off with a few warm fuzzies, I say!)  To make your own candy pencils, gather up the following:

  • Rolo’s
  • Hershey Hugs (or Kisses)
  • Yellow and Pink Cardstock
  • Foil
  • Glue Dots

Good News: String lights are on clearance right now! You can save some major cheese by stocking up right now.
