When I decided to give my guest room a makeover for the One Room Challenge, I knew it would be a great opportunity to create a cool accent wall. So once I finished the rest of the space, I dove into the final detail – a hand painted brushstroke accent wall using a slightly darker paint color.

Renter-Friendly DIY: How to Customize Your Own Removable Wallpaper

Customized Removable Wallpaper

Living in a rental is not my ideal situation, but I’ve learned to make the best of the space that I have and still make the customizations that I want. One of the best ways to customize a space is with a fun accent wall, and for renters who cannot paint or apply wallpaper, removable wallpaper is king! I wanted to create a completely customized accent wall without painting it, so instead, I created customized removable wallpaper using a form of solid-colored contact paper. Continue Reading

When Autumn Leaves Start to Wall

Fun fact: Autumn Leaves was the first jazz standard I learned on guitar back in high school, when I though learning to play jazz guitar would make me cool and get girlfriends. It’s a pretty basic song, and a good one to teach a 15-year-old me how to do a chord melody, which, on a guitar, is where you play a song’s chords and melody at the same time, and … hey, isn’t this supposed to be a DIY blog!? How To: Create a DIY Stamped Statement Wall

I am kind of obsessed with home design. Ever since I’ve had a place to myself, I’ve used my downtime to do something with the house. And creating something out of a mass of rejects is usually my weapon of choice.

Other than a few key pieces of furniture, everything at my place is always either a DIY project, has undergone a makeover, or been picked up second-hand. I think it’s a genetic defect to not be able to accept a mass-produced product without letting it suffer through a rebirth. Continue Reading

This wall, spotted in Studiomates’ headquarters (a collaborative work space founded by Swiss Miss blogger Tina Eisenberg), is a refreshing spin on a traditional decor element. It’s also an easily DIY-able — and affordable — idea that would look great in a variety of homes! Continue Reading

Before & After: A $15 Accent Wall Makeover

If you’ve got $15, a steady hand, and a bit of patience, you can turn a boring wall like this…

…into a stylish accent wall like this! Heather Freeman from The Lovely Cupboard did just that with a handmade stencil and some paint pens. Incredible, right? The final look is a fraction of the cost of a similar wallpaper Heather had had her eye on and, if she tires of it, she can simply paint over it rather than mess with time-consuming wallpaper removal.
