Make It: DIY Upcycled Water Bottle Chandelier

created at: 05/09/2012

Part installation piece, part upcycling genius, this DIY water bottle chandelier is a cinch to make!

created at: 05/09/2012

Party decor and DIY queen Jordan Ferney created this unique, hanging objet d’art from discarded plastic bottles (and a few coats of colorful spray paint). While this version isn’t a functioning chandelier in the traditional sense, it wouldn’t be difficult to string some low-wattage holiday lights throughout. (I’m thinking white bulbs with white strands/wires would look best here.) What do you think? Continue Reading

Make It: A DIY Hanging Light Bulb Chandelier!

Gianna of Chic Celebrations created this charming chandelier for a vintage-inspired wedding. You can snag most of your supplies in a single trip to the hardware store, namely lighting kits, chicken wire, and some 1×2 wood. After that, check out Gianna’s tutorial over on Ruffled for all the deets!

How to: Make a DWR Cellula Crystal Chandelier Knock-off

created at: 11/01/2011

Jackie fell in love with DWI’s Cellula chandelier, which is pictured above, but its $2,730 price tag made it OUT of reach. Jackie then went to work, starting off with a visit to IKEA where she snagged a Tidig pendant. From there it was just a matter of accumulating crystals.

DIY linear crystal chandelier

She used real glass crystals, which proved to be too heavy for the beading filament and crimp beads she intended to use to hang the beads, so she had to opt for 26 gauge wire. Continue Reading

How to Make a Capiz Shell Chandelier

Amy was so smitten with her friend Susan’s DIY capiz shell chandy, that she made one herself using Brenna’s tutorial, which she–Susan–spotted at Design Sponge. Got all that? No matter how the project got into Amy’s hands, I’m just glad it did, because it is one of the best DIY capiz shell chandy’s I’ve seen. The supplies to make one are deceptively ordinary and include the (now) customary wax paper & iron as well as an old lampshade which is canabalized to make the frame. Continue Reading

How To: Make Your Own Wire Orb Light!

created at: 09/25/2011

The Random Light by Moooi has inspired many a DIY variation (including this cool hemp version), but this is the first time I’ve seen the aesthetic translated into wire–and I love it!  It’s a perfect statement piece for just about any style interior from contemporary to farmhouse, eclectic to modern.  Of course, the best part is you can make it yourself!

There’s no denying that this oversized orb will make a big impact in any space, but its lacy construction is airy enough not to overpower the room (which is one of the things I love about it).   Continue Reading

How to Make a Rock Candy Chandy

created at: 08/24/2011

Yup, this little chandelier is made out of candy. Not sure of its longevity or if it would attract wee beasties, but for temporary applications, it doesn’t get much more charming. Laura is our instructor for this project, and here is her materials list:

  • rock candy strings
  • bailing wire (16 gauge)
  • seam binding or ribbon
  • wire cutters
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks

For the entire tutorial, head on over to Once Wed. But before you do that, check out the picture below. Continue Reading
