The 5-Second Standing Desk

This January (like last year) we’re talking about the creative spaces where we get work (and art, and doodles, and crafts, etc.) done. Yesterday I stopped by a letterpress printer’s shop (getting some cards printed up for my upcoming trip to Alt Summit), and I was really struck by one thing. A Glitter-y Vintage School Desk Makeover

Schooldesk makeover, before

Against all my expectations, my daughter Ayla is a princess-loving, pink-obssessed, necklace-wearing girly girl. She’s two, and yet she often demands wardrobe changes several times per day. Honestly, I don’t know how this happened; I always kind of thought I end up with a tomboy, but no, her favorite games are ‘jewly’ (jewelry) and and dressing up her ‘babies.’

How To: Turn Any Bookshelf Into a Fold-Out Desk

I work from home, so I’m extremely grateful to have a dedicated office and craft room. But, I realize that’s not always possible when space is at a premium. Luckily, if you have a space to store your books, you have space to create a custom, storable office, in the form of a fold-out desk.   Taryn from Unplggd has all the details. “You can get the…look from any old bookshelf, including that one you’ve had in storage forever…From there, all you’d need to do is add a set of doors…Once the door is on, you’d need to custom-fit a drop-down desk. Welcome to our blog series, My Total Office Makeover, in which Curbly’s editor-in-chief, Chris Gardner, realizes that as a full-time design and craft blogger working from home, he’d better transform his second bedroom into a space where work can actually get done, and look pretty cool while it happens.

Part VII: The (Big?) Reveal For a year and a half, I had a spare bedroom that was more-or-less the kind of of place where you shut the door when you had company over. Continue Reading
