So when I saw these pictures of Crochet Graffiti, my first thought was VINDICATION! I mean, it’s like this, graffiti is cool, right? And if people are using crochet to create graffiti, then, ergo, crochet is cool. These particular urban graffiti artists are wreaking their yarnie havoc in the streets of Glasgow. There are two kinds of wall tattoos. One is the stencil or vinyl sort put on display for public view. The other kind is created by anarchists who challenge prevailing thought. Sounds cool, huh? Whether wall tattoos of the anarchist variety are simple drawings or ornate modern art, they have one thing in common: They’re little seen. In most cases such tattoos can be found behind hotel ‘art work’, mirrors and furniture. The toile of 18th century France has been pulled by its ear into the 21st century by Historically Inaccurate Decorative Arts. The design firm uses ‘traditional stitching techniques in modern ways, thematically hearkening back to historical styles such as maritime crochet or cross-stitch samplers but substituting contemporary iconography in place of the original design element.’ Case in point: Farmers being visited by a UFO….
or a courting couple sprouting fairy wings.
