Those Swedes sure do love to organize. Flip through any edition of the IKEA catalog, and the first impression you’ll likely get is: a place for everything, and everything in its place. But don’t our cluttered, modern, go-go-go lifestyles make it seem impossible to live up to this standard? Most especially in that most dreaded place in our homes — the closet. Chances are, if you’re a Curbly reader, you love organization just as much as we do. Continue Reading
For a while now, I've been trying to figure out how to make the kitchen in my apartment more user-friendly. It's tiny house small. It's a classic galley, only instead of countertops and cupboards flanking both sides of a narrow passage, everything is shoved on one side, facing a blank wall. Because the rental kitchen is so narrow, it hasn't made much sense to put anything on the adjacent wall, save for a trash can and recycling bin. Continue Reading
Before I bought this nightstand, I had never stepped foot in an IKEA (gasp!). It wasn’t for lack of wanting to, I just never had the opportunity before. As a former small-town gal, I haven’t lived within driving distance of an IKEA up until I moved to the big city (more specifically, the Twin Cities) about a year and a half ago. Since moving, I’ve been putting off a trip to the IKEA because I know myself too well. Continue Reading

I have a love-hate relationship with light fittings. I totally get that they can transform the look of a room, but I've put off changing ours for aaaages because the ones I love best are always out of my budget. And when it comes to the crunch, I can't justify spending $150+ on a pretty light fixture when there are bills to be paid! That's where this IKEA lighting hack comes in.
One of the easiest ways to change up a piece of furniture is to switch out the hardware – but what happens when the hardware is abandoned completely? When my wife found this nightstand during a recent trip to IKEA, she immediately drew inspiration from a different piece of furniture in our house – our hardware-less credenza. Could we replicate the cutout drawer handle on her new nightstand? Turns out, we could! Trading a little extra work for the extra cost of new hardware, here's how this IKEA nightstand hack worked out. Continue Reading
