The most important step is insuring your safety and that of the people around you.  Always make sure any children are closely supervised.  Sparklers can reach temperatures above 1800 degrees Fahrenheit and need to be handled carefully.  Continue Reading

DIY Ugly Sweater Christmas Garland

Ugly sweater garland

When did we all decide to stop wearing ugly Christmas sweaters ironically, and switch to wearing them sincerely? Either way, I love a good ugly sweater during the holidays. The tackier, the better, in my opinion! I have my own that I whip out for parties, decked out in kittens and distractingly noisy jingle bells. I decided to celebrate this kitschy theme by making a decorative garland out of mini little sweaters. Turns out, shrinking things only makes them cuter, not uglier!             Continue Reading

Make These: Rorschach Ink Blot Pillows

Make these: DIY Rorschach test pillows

Are you familiar with the Rorschach Test? It's the psychological exam where you look at ink blots and say what you see. Depending on how you interpret the ink, you receive a different diagnosis of your psyche. Now, I'm not a psychiatrist by any means, but I do know a DIY opportunity when I see one. Whether or not you interpret the shapes as a bear, or as the face of your mother, throw a little color in there and we've got ourselves a project. Continue Reading

Before you Decorate Easter Eggs, Try This Golden Trick

Golden egg trick | How to scramble your eggs before you hard boil them!

The internet is teeming with hacks and tricks, and as we all know, a lot of them just aren't true. It's the nature of the beast. The same freedom that allows anyone to have a voice on the web also means people just get on the internet and tell lies (it's true, Buster)! I saw this trick a while back for how to pre-scramble eggs before you cook them and I was mildly skeptical. You’re Never Too Old to Make a Flower Press

Make this DIY flower press from wood and bolts

I received my first flower press when I turned nine years old – maybe eight? The point is it was forever ago. I got it as a birthday gift from my best friend. The flower press came with a small instructional booklet on how to collect and preserve colorful wildflowers. On the front of the press was an illustration of Anne of Green Gables, happily picking florals and putting them into a giant basket. I still have that flower press, all these years later, with flowers wedged between the pages that are as old as the press itself. Continue Reading
