The Curbly House: Our Dream Mudroom and Laundry Room is Finished!

Curbly House Mudroom & Laundry Room
Not long ago, when we shared our kitchen renovation with you, we left a little something out. When we began planning our new addition, we decided to add a laundry and mud room off the kitchen to create an entry point with storage and give ourselves the luxury of first-floor laundry. This room has absolutely been the best decision we made during our entire house project. It's simple and straight-forward, but it has brought a tremendous amount of organization and simplicity to our daily home routines.       Continue Reading

A Quick Curbly House Update: How We Spent Our Summer Vacation

Things have been cah-ray-zhee at the Curbly House these past several weeks. Sheetrock rocked us, taking a lot longer than expected due to a delivery truck that arrived to our house and then broke, twice … delaying the start to this step by 5 days. After all was said and hung, our master mudder Marco had to spend additional time working with all the seams, delaying the process by another 5 days. But the results were stunning:

Then came flooring, which of course had its own special delays. Continue Reading

The Curbly House: A New Kitchen and Master Bedroom in Progress

Our last Curbly House update was a while ago, so I wanted to check in and let you know how it’s all going. If there were one sentence to summarize phase two of our home renovation, it would be: Damn you, winter.

Weather has not been on our side this time around. In fact, weather has been our nemesis. We had (too optimistically?) hoped to dig the foundation for our addition in January. But it was freezing, so we thought February would be the golden month.  Continue Reading

Read on to watch my video journal, find out how our new bathroom started coming together, and see if you can spot a special surprise that we’ve been expecting…

First, here’s my weekly video journal, except that this week it’s Alicia, not me! Continue Reading

4 Year Old Boy’s Christmas Wish: A Dual-Flush Toilet

Dustin Kruse isn’t your typical 4 year old boy. At least when it comes to his fascination with toilets. And what he asked Santa for Christmas.

Dustin begged his parents to take him to the Kohler Design Center in his hometown of Kohler, Wisconsin earlier this year. After spending 3 hours in the design center and accumulating a stack of product brochures, Dustin announced his wish for Christmas. He said he was going to ask Santa for a “full-flush half-flush toilet.” The economy having taken its toll on the Kruse family, Dustin’s parents couldn’t fulfill his dream, so his mom sent a letter to Kohler, which eventually fell into the hands of John Bashaw, director of Kohler Customer Service and president and COO David Kohler (aka ‘Santa’ as far as this story goes).
