Reuse and recycle: Make fabric from old plastic bags

As Earth Day approaches (mark your calendars! April 22nd!), I’ve been thinking about ways to reduce and reuse the things I don’t need in my life anymore. I’m pretty good about recycling what I can – cardboard, papers, and bottles go in the curbside recycling, and compost I take to the local natural foods store. Plastic bags go to grocery stores with those plastic bag bins up front, along with other random thinner plastics like cereal bags, plastic wrap, and bread bags. Continue Reading

Organize Your Space: DIY Craft Table

created at: 01/10/2012

One of my main challenges as a creative person (I like to think of myself as such!) is the mess that comes along with it.  It seems to me like a good solution to the constant moving of project piles would be a good storage solution, like this DIY desk.

Made with simple shelves and hollow core doors, this project is pretty inexpensive.  In fact, when I first saw the desk I thought the top was made of table tops from Ikea (like the one I’m currently using), which would be even cheaper than doors. Continue Reading

How to: Make a DIY Upcycled Coat and Purse Hanging Station

created at: 01/10/2012

With our warm winters, we don’t have a need for a coat rack.  In fact, the coat closet in our condo is home to our camping gear because the very idea of having designated square footage for coats is silly when it is 72 degrees outside (which did make for an awkward situation when we had people over for dinner and they handed me their light jackets… I just stood there like an idiot holding them instead).  Continue Reading
