I swear, succulents and cacti get all the good DIY planters these days! (Probably because they’re cute and sculptural and hardy as all get out.) They certainly look great in these hanging macrame eggshell pots, though!

Lisa Tilse from the fabulous blog The Red Thread recently shared this tutorial for properly prepping the shells and knotting your own macrame hanger (which you can easily adapt for other sizes and uses)! Check it out here.

How To: Make a Faceted Paper Vase (Free Template)

created at: 11/15/2012

I am still not over the faceted/geometric/triangle/OMG-I-LOVE-SHAPES trend. Why? Because, OMG, I love shapes. Plus, when I saw this easy paper craft from Oh Happy Day, my little facet-loving heart started fluttering and I knew I had to share it!

Now obviously, because it’s made of paper, this isn’t the kind of vase you put freshly cut flowers in. It’s more of the… dead flora/decorative branch variety. You could even make a small one and use it as a pencil holder or something similar if decorative branches aren’t your thing (that’s probably what I’ll do). Continue Reading

Some days I find myself with a real need to get some creating done.  This is usually when the laundry pile is the highest, the floor is in need of sweeping, and dishes still sit in the sink.  Sound familiar?  It is those days that I need to do something that actually gets finished, unlike that bottomless laundry pile.

That’s why I love easy projects like these that can be done in minutes to break up the monotony of housework.  Continue Reading

Make It: A Mod DIY Fire Extinguisher Vase!

created at: 08/03/2011

Should you find yourself with an empty fire extinguisher*, don’t just throw it away!  Turn that sucker into a mod-looking vase instead!

Amanda Wright from Wit & Whistle was gifted an empty fire extinguisher from her “pyromaniac dad”, which is pretty cool.  If you don’t have an empty fire extinguisher, this idea would work well with loads of other objects, just get creative with your materials!  Once you’ve found an extinguisher (or whatever you’re going to use as a vase), gather up these supplies as well:

  • 1/2″ wide masking tape
  • primer for metal (or glass or plastic, depending on your object)
  • paint brush or sponge brushes
  • 2 acrylic paint colors (spray paint would also work)
  • clear spray sealant (optional)

Then, skip on over to Wit & Whistle for the full tutorial! Continue Reading
